about

This was the original outro to At Odds At Times, coming after the acoustic version of Invincible. Ominous and urgent, with whispered vocals stacked synthetically, its lyrics call back to a couple other songs from over the years, and Outro ends with a lengthy unsettling, clicking ambient pad soundscape that harkens back to Intro from Studies in Electronica. There's no release to the tension, even at the end.

In the lyrics, you can see the beginnings of the themes I'd explore 7 years later on Fiction and Other Stories's "Other Stories" and "Fiction".

Ultimately, I felt it left At Odds At Times in a different place and with a different message than where I'd wanted it to actually conclude. It's never been publicly released, until now.

lyrics

I'm so invincible...

Ask myself what I'm seeking
Twisted time, it runs away
I ask myself what I'm seeking
Twisted time, it runs away, it runs away from
Me. Me, who am I? What's my meaning?
I ask myself how I could possibly be.

I tremble, I fall
I survive against it all
I stumble, I stand tall
I stand tall
I stand tall

At times I feel I can't let go
At times I feel I fall
Purple lightbulb, tell me,
Am I so invincible?

Every choice we make has a consequence
It is our requirement to discover
What those consequences are
And as such, to shape our choices
